Vincent Kennedy McMahon was born on August 24th, 1945, in Pine hurts, North Carolina. His father, Vincent James McMahon, abandoned the family when Vincent Jr. was just a baby. He took older son Rod with him and the first time Vince met his father was when he was twelve. He had a string of stepfathers and had a rough childhood. Vince attended Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Virginia.

Career

Vincent McMahon senior was the owner of Capitol Wrestling Corporation (CWC). Vince became interested in the family business and at one point wanted to become a wrestler. His father didn’t let him and steered him to be a promoter. After graduating from East Carolina University with a business degree, he debuted as a World Wide Wrestling Federation promoter in 1969. During the 1970s, his career was on the rise and he became an important figure in his father’s company. In 1982, he gained control of the company and immediately started shaping it into what would later become WWE. In 1984 he signed Hulk Hogan and set the foundations of the modern wrestling. The 1980s saw a wrestling boom, featuring the rivalry between Hulk Hogan and Andre the giant and many other wrestling stars.

The 1990s saw a bitter rivalry between WWE and Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling (WCW). McMahon survived by creating new storylines for his wrestlers, bring more adult-oriented themes into wrestling. By early 2000s, he has acquired both WCW and after his other rival Extreme Championship Wrestling filed for bankruptcy in 2001, WWE remained the only player in the game.

Vince also participated in wrestling as a fighter. His ring name was Mr. McMahon and he combined it with his commentary job, in an effort to conceal that he was the owner of WWE. During the 1980s and 1990s, he had several altercations in or near the ring with various wrestlers. He also participated in matches, winning the WWF Championship in 1999 by defeating Triple H.
