A beauty blogger Nikkie de Jager will be the next Eurovision host. The Dutch Instagram influencer, known as NikkieTutorials, came out as transgender in January.
The coronavirus pandemic forced the organizers to change the format of the event and this year’s edition won’t be a contest. Nikkie’s task will be to introduce all participants via video. She took the opportunity to announce herself in a video she made with Dutch singer Duncan Laurence, the last year’s winner. “Please say hello to your online host for the 2020 Eurovision song contest,” she said.
Hosting Eurovision was Nikkie’s lifelong dream, according to her admission. Her already popular Instagram account gained millions of new followers after she announced she was transgender. The reveal happened after she was blackmailed.
“I can’t believe I am saying this today to all of you, for the entire world to see, but damn it feels good to finally do it. It’s time to let go and be truly free,” she said in the video. “When I was younger I was born in the wrong body, which means that I am transgender.”
“I always wanted to live in a world where I saw myself as me, as Nikkie, as a woman, as a girl, as a boss lady. This was my way out, you know?” de Jager added. “I started my channel back in the days where I still got really, really, bullied for all of this and this world was my way out.”
