Necklace Asprey & Garrad

What associations do you have when you think of Titanic? Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet or My heart will go on by Celine Dion? Or maybe the Heart of the Ocean?

According to the plot, the heart-shaped sapphire adorning the famous necklace “The Heart of the Ocean” (La Coeur de la Mer) has been a part of the Louis XVI crown. In fact, the necklace was created by the jewelry house Asprey & Garrad specifically for the film. It was made of white gold with cubic zirconias. However, after the Titanic’s grandiose success, the jewelers of Asprey & Garrad created an exact copy of the necklace, adorned with a 170 carats sapphire and 65 diamonds of 30 carats each. The necklace was sold at a charity auction for 2.2 million dollars.
