Is Trump Trying to Sell the Moon?

The US executive order to mine the Moon proves that the collective good seems to be less important than neoliberal ideas of “value”.

According to David Bollier “the real estate developer who improbably became US President legally declared that he sees the Moon in far less elevated terms”, reports Al Jazeera.

President Trump signed the executive order which makes the private commercial uses of the Moon, Mars and meteors authorized. This means that Off-Earth bodies are now starting to be observed as a means to gain profit.

The so-called space business was the topic of the US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross’ request to the US government.  He called the government to support this kind of business, and to reduce regulations and coordinating government aid, especially due to the competitive threats by China and Russia. He also emphasized the idea of the space tourism and using ice on the Moon’s dark side for the creation of hydrogen and oxygen. The latter two could be then used for rockets for Mars, according to Ross. On the top of that, he has the idea of “turning the Moon into a kind of gas station for outer space.”

Property rights’ for Americans on the Moon, by 2020 as well as the large-scale economic development of space are being further explored by Trump’s administration.

Ross is enlightened by the whole idea, so he compared it to A Space Odyssey, a film from 2001. Further, he has no doubt that it will happen. “IT is coming closer to reality sooner than you may have ever thought possible”, stated Ross.

The question which arises is: Who really owns the Moon?

Things like the space, oceans, and atmosphere are usually referred to as global commons by politicians and economists. It implies that these notions in fact belong to everybody and that they should be used for the collective good. The fact many nations have signed series of treaties in order to keep the space in the zone of the collective and global, proves that it does belong to all of us.

In 1959, seven states agreed that Antarctica should be non-militarized by signing a treaty in order to establish a scientific research commons there.

In 1967, USA together with more than 100 states, signed the Outer Space Treaty, which guarantees that the research done in space will be for the benefit of the humankind.

A Moon Agreement from 1979 is considered to be the international law. The US did not sign it, but it is still considered to be valuable. According to this agreement the Moon is not a private property, which means that it cannot be colonized, owned or militarized.

It seems that it is hard to get rid of the imperialism, though. Trump’s executive order proves that the states do not observe things as the collective good, but rather as the free resources in order to gain profit.

Trump Wants to Leave the White House!

The world crisis everyone is facing at the moment, affects even the biggest leaders.

There are many preventive measures the citizens are advised to follow. Things like good hygiene, disinfection, and self-isolation are effective and crucial. With obeying these measures, everyone is in fact, saving lives. Nevertheless, the experts constantly point out that staying at home is one of the most important preventive measures. These measures apply to all, including the president of the USA. According to some sources, president Trump finds it really hard to stay at the White House during these difficult times.

Source:theatlantic.com

On March 28th, the president travelled Norfolk, Virginia, and on March 6th he stayed in Florida for three days. Those two short trips have been the only ones, and Trump is apparently frustrated due to the fact that he must follow the rules of self-isolation.

Trump, like everyone else wonders when the crisis will be over. The president seems to be optimistic according to Tim Murtaugh, communications director of Trump’s campaign. He stated “The coronavirus will pass and the president is looking forward to getting back out on the campaign trail and holding rallies. We will get back to those rallies. Never fear, the president is certain that we’re going to be back out there speaking directly to the American people.”

From the White House, it was reported that new ways in which the president may travel are being considered. They are thinking about a safe way in which the president could visit health centers in the USA which have had around 50.000 casualties.

According to NBC one senior administration official said “Like many Americans, the president is looking forward to travel when it is safe to do so.”

Trump’s Popularity Doesn’t Change

According to CNN, the President of the United State, Donald Trump, is popular as he was on his first day in the office. The reason for his popularity is the way he handles the Coronavirus crisis.

Source:washingtonpost.com

The recent research done by Gallup showed that roughly around 49% of participators supports the way Trump’s behavior president. At the same time, about 45% doesn’t support him. Roughly 60% of Americans support the way he handles the Coronavirus crisis. About 38% don’t support the measures.

When it comes to neutral American, 6 out of 10 supports the President’s measures, including 1 out of 4 democrats, or 27%. The same research shows that people don’t follow Trumps’ every statement related to the Coronavirus. Also, they don’t hold him responsible for several mistakes the administration has made in that field.

Why Ivanka is not as Popular as Melania Trump?

Besides the fact that she is aways by the side of her father, the president of the United States. the status of Ivanka Trump, Donald’s first daughter, is not high as her stepmother has in public. However, she is the most popular of his five children, and many people think that she is his favorite one.

Source:Instagram

Ivanka Trump, who is 38 now, have shown the biggest interest and capability to inherit the empire of Donald Trump. Even though many people don`t like Trump and how he leads the country, no one can`t dispute his ability to bring a responsible and successful daughter.

On the other side, her positive image in public is questionable, mostly from the moment when she supported her father when he decided to separate children from their parents during the migrant crisis in recent years. Donald is very pleased with her knowledge and persistence, and he has big plans for her in terms of inheriting his business, and even the position of president.

Ivanka showed to everyone that she has the necessary calmness and ability to work under pressure. Also, she is working on various projects such as opening new work positions across the United States and improving the position of women in society. When it comes to her private life, she is married to Jared Kushner, who is Senior Adviser of her father. Two of them have three kids, Arabella, Joseph, and Theodore.

However, many people suspect that her relations with Melania Trump are not so good, and some people are sure that Melania`s popularity is one of the reasons for that. Both of them rarely have some public talks, and Melania is not so close to Donald’s first four children. Many rumors say that Ivanka is jealous of Melania`s style and outfit, which is the main reason for her popularity in the first place.

Trump Refuses to Listen to Advice, Keep Shaking Hands and Attending Meetings

According to Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Donald Trump refuses to listen to his advice. Trump keeps shaking hands with people, going to meetings, and everything has to be repeated four or five times before he gets it.

White Houses’ top epidemiologist has been having a hard time trying to get Trump to understand just how serious the situation is. His reaction during one of the media briefings, when he facepalmed, has become a meme.

‘But I can’t jump in front of the microphone and push him down. OK, he said it. Let’s try and get it corrected for the next time.’

He also mentioned that Trump made some mistakes during his speeches, specifically when he accused China of not informing the world two or three months earlier, saying that it would be September.

‘The way it happened is that after he made that statement suggesting China could have revealed the discovery of a new coronavirus three to four months earlier], I told the appropriate people, it doesn’t comport, because two or three months earlier would have been September,’ Fauci said.

Fauci seems to be developing his own system of how to correct the President. “I don’t want to act like a tough guy, like I stood up to the president,” he said. “I just want to get the facts out. And instead of saying, ‘You’re wrong,’ all you need to do is continually talk about what the data are and what the evidence is.”

Donald Trump Violated The First Amendment When He Blocked Critics on Twitter

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit denied the White House’s request for en banc review of a ruling that Trump violated the First Amendment when blocked critics on Twitter.

His administration had appealed for a review of the unanimous three-judge ruling by the 2nd Circuit in July 2019, which holds that President’s @realDonaldTrump Twitter account is a “public forum” under the U.S. Constitution’s First Amendment.

The U.S. District Court judge’s ruled that his blocking of individual accounts on Twitter was unconstitutional, rejecting the argument from his lawyers that Donald’s own First Amendment rights would not be respected if he was disallowed to block users.

The district court ordered Donald to unblock the plaintiffs’ accounts and forbade him to block speakers on the basis of political views.

The lawsuit against the President was filed in 2017 by Columbia University’s Knight First Amendment Institute and seven individuals who told that Trump blocked them from the @realDonaldTrump account after they were criticizing him.

Turning Point of Donald Trump’s Presidency

/

Donald Trump has been leading the United States for almost two years, even though nobody expected him to win at the US elections. Some are happy to have Trump as the president, but many are “stuck” with him, and they cannot wait to see his back. So far, his presidency has been tumultuous, but the next week or two are going to be the turning point. After the upcoming weeks, we are going to know the course for the remaining months with Trump as the leader.

First of all, on Monday, the jury in former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort’s trial will enter the third day of deliberation. This case is about Manafort’s relationship with the Ukrainian government before he became the head of Trump’s campaign on the presidential election. We also have to point out that former FBI chief Robert Mueller led the investigation about the special counsel probe and Russian interference in the 2016 elections and Manafort’s trial grew out of it. If Manafort were to be convicted, it would provide momentum for the special counsel’s office in advance of the release of Muelle’s report on his investigation. In case that he walks free, he is going to be tried in Washington on similar charges and POTUS will have more reasons to push his “witch hunt” story as true.

Secondly, according to various reports, federal prosecutors are prepping charges against former Trump personal attorney Michael Cohen who has been connected to several suspicious bank loans and who potentially violated campaign finance rules. Cohen has also been involved with the payoffs he made to women that accused Trump of having an affair with them.

“My wife, my daughter, and my son have my first loyalty and always will,” Cohen told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos in early July. “I put family and country first.” Earlier this month, sources close to Cohen told CNN that Cohen wanted to testify to Mueller that Donald Trump knew about the meeting that took place in June 2016 between Donald Trump Jr. and the other Trump campaign leaders and several Russians. However, the current president has negated such claims.

Thirdly, we are entering the final stages of protected negotiations between Trump’s legal team and special counsel’s office about whether Trump and Mueller should meet, with the president being the one answering questions. Trump’s lawyer Rudi Giuliani said that Mueller’s investigators “have taken 2-3 weeks to get back to us, so what I have to tell you is, look, I am not going to be rushed into having him testify so that he gets trapped into perjury.” So far it is unknown whether Trump will meet with Mueller, but soon we will learn what the decision is.

All of these events are interwoven, and one could alter the others. For instance, if Manafort is found not guilty, it will only strengthen Trump’s position, and he will find no reason to sit down with Mueller and accidentally disclose something that shouldn’t be out in the open. Even with Cohen’s plea, the president wouldn’t have reasons to talk to Mueller. On the other hand, if Manafort is found guilty, then Cohen is charged and cuts a plea agreement with the special counsel’s office. In this case, POTUS would be under pressure to talk to Mueller because otherwise, people would think that he is hiding something even if he doesn’t.

And throughout all this, Trump kept tweeting. There were some usual tweets, one of which was: “Disgraced and discredited Bob Mueller and his whole group of Angry Democrat Thugs spent over 30 hours with the White House Counsel, only with my approval, for purposes of transparency.” So far we had words and assumptions. In the upcoming weeks, we will see action and those actions could have major or minor consequences on Trump’s presidency and policy.

Who Will Be The Next US President In 2020?

//

Donald Trump has been in the office for only one year, and people are already speculating about his successor. The challengers for the office in 2020 will be many, and we are here to discuss them. During the speech at the Golden Globes, even Oprah Winfrey put herself in the mix. She’s one of many people intrigued by presidential position. Other names include dedicated politicians. Many candidates believe that they have what it takes to replace Donald Trump. Here, you have a list of primary contenders.

2020 presidential election candidates:

9. Mike Pence

Source:qz.com

The current Vice President of the United States may not be the obvious choice for a Republican candidate in 2020, but his chances are actually quite good. In case Trump gets impeached (and the possibility grows larger every day), Pence will automatically become the President. He will then have to, for the rest of the term, persuade the rest of GOP to be their candidate. All things considered, Pence can very well find himself on the ballot in 2020. In case he changes his mind and resigns after his boss is impeached, the presidency will go to the next person on our list.

8. Paul Ryan

Source:CNN.com

As Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Paul Ryan is second in the line of succession in case Donald Trump gets impeached. In order for Ryan to assume the office of the President of the United States, Mike Pence would have to resign. Although seemingly far-fetched, Ryan is a far more acceptable candidate for Republican Party come 2020 elections as a long-time serving member of Congress and established household name, especially compared to Pence, who is considered an outsider by many Republicans.

7. Bernie Sanders

Source:washingtonexaminer.com

In 2016, Sanders was one of Democrat candidates. He fell short that year, but his progressive views have many followers among people. Two years ago he lost to Hillary Clinton but continued his political work through his group Our Revolution. He’s dedicated to discussing health and education issues. His only downside is his age. In 2020 he will be 78, so if he runs for president, he will be the oldest person ever to do so.

Many of his supporters still feel that Bernie was cheated out of the nomination by the Democratic National Committee and that their support for Hillary Clinton was a mistake. Her defeat at the elections proved them right, at least when it comes to who would be a better candidate. According to Jeff Weaver, Bernie’s campaign manager in 2016, he still hasn’t decided if he will run again in 2020 but is strongly considering the option.

6. Joe Biden

Biden is former Vice President during the Barack Obama tenure in White House. As one of his greatest regrets in life, he states the decision not to run for office in 2016. He decided not to run due to death of his son Beau in 2015.

Former senator enjoys popularity and has been in the race in 1987 and 2007, losing on both occasions. Biden who was very critical of Hilary Clinton’s campaign will be 77 in two years.

Biden is viewed as one of the strongest candidates for the Democratic nomination in 2020. He has already started to position himself, but there are quite a few skeletons in his closet when it comes to his voting record in the Senate that could seriously dampen his chances. Most important is his sponsorship for the bankruptcy reform bill that made it harder for people to declare bankruptcy, something many in his party will never forgive him.

5. Elizabeth Warren

Elizabeth Warren is Senator from Massachusetts and is a fierce adversary of the current president. She will be the forerunner for Democrat candidate in 2020.

Signs that she will run for office are evident as she is already raising money for her campaign. At the moment she has $12.8 million to her name, which is much more than any other candidate. Same as Sanders she belongs to the left-wing populist.

4. Kirsten Gillibrand

A Senator from New York, Gillibrand is currently at the seat formerly occupied by Hilary Clinton. She gained broad support after advocating against gender impropriety. When the allegations of assault against Al Franken became public, Gillibrand was the first to call for his resignation. She also noted that former president Bill Clinton should have resigned when he was charged with the same.

If she gets to be the one to run against Donald Trump the campaign will be super exciting. Why? Well, Kirsten called for Trump’s resignation when he was charged with assault.

3. Kamala Harris

When she was elected as the Senator of California Kamala was only the second black woman to be elected to the body. She’s in the office for only one year but thanks to her involvement in health and immigration issues she’s being considered for president run.

If she runs for office, she will be the youngest candidate from this list. Kamala Harris also asked for Donald Trump to resign from the office after the harassment claims. She said that his resignation would be in the “best interests of the country.”

2. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

After an article from Washington Post claiming that The Rock could win the elections if he runs for the president went viral, the actor started to consider this option. He’s not a member of any party, and his political stance is unknown, but he stated that he would run for office out of his love for America: “I care deeply about our country, and I care deeply about our people – especially now. Decency matters and being a decent human being matters, and character matters, and leadership matters.”

Johnson works on a tight schedule, so his run in 2020 doesn’t seem likely. But, in 2024? Everything is possible.

1. Oprah Winfrey

Another non-political candidate is Oprah Winfrey. Just like the current president, she has no prior experience, but she is a philanthropist and is dedicated to all the right causes. What works against her is that she’s similarly to Donald Trump also an entertainer. Analysts believe that US public won’t be interested in another president of the same profile.

She is seriously considering launching a campaign, but this doesn’t concern the current president. During one interview at White House POTUS stated: “Yeah, I’ll beat Oprah. Oprah would be a lot of fun. I know her very well. I like Oprah. I don’t think she’s going to run.”
