Top 7 Best Netflix Movies for a First Date

Meeting someone you click with on a dating platform is always exciting. The virtual medium presents such a relaxing platform, somewhere you can shed any inhibitions and start getting to know a potential partner. After developing a rapport you can start chatting about activities for your first date. One of the most popular of all is enjoying a Netflix movie. had asked their users and based on this poll they’ve come up with seven of the best that will make your first date a guaranteed success.

The Other Guys

Comedies are always a terrific icebreaker for any date night. In this offbeat example, the typically overly-wacky Will Ferrell tones his performance down to play a pen-pushing and browbeaten NYPD detective, Gamble, who is partnered with the more headstrong Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg). Plodding along from day to day, Hoitz, itching to get back out onto the street, pounces when a minor case quickly develops into something much bigger. Sidesplitting chaos ensues, but the heart of this action-comedy is the rapport between the two leads. They grow to respect each other, while proving to their colleagues they are far from the pushovers everyone thought they were. Chemistry between partners? Perfect first date entertainment.

Bird Box

First date choices will tend to focus on romcoms or thrillers, but sometimes an out-and-out horror film is just what’s needed to get the adrenaline rushing. There aren’t so many jump scares in this post-apocalyptic science fiction drama, no vampires or seriual killers, but it’s the unseen evil that makes this much, much scarier than any monster movie. A mysterious force has decimated humankind, with the survivors clutching the knowledge that they are safe as long as they can’t see the entity. Sandra Bullock, a highly versatile performer who might be more familiar from her sexy but slightly kooky rom-com persona, is perfect as a mother determined to protect her children. With potential danger lurking around every corner, they embark on a perilous river journey, made more trecherous by the fact they need to stay blindfolded to survive. With every twist and turn, you and your partner will be snuggling closer together.

Here’s an unusual movie to tie in with your date, as you keep the remote control in one hand and your refreshments in the other. Michael (Adam Sandler) is an architect who stumbles upon a fantastical remote control. This does so much more than change the channels on a TV set. It has the power to fast-forward or rewind to different parts of his life. Essentially, this is taking the premise of the hugely successful Groundhog Day – what would you do differently if you could control time – and giving it an even more potent twist. Sandler may be the movie equivalent of Marmite – some of his roles are cringeworthy, others side-splitting, but here he tones down the trademark gurning and goofy voices to make the most of the simple but brilliant plot device.

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Are Marvel movies ok for a first date? Isn’t it an assumption that the person you are getting to know better is guaranteed to be a superhero fan? You don’t need to fret – this feature, starring the ever-likable Paul Rudd as the titular Ant-Man, and Hope van Dyne as Wasp, is a standalone feature you can get engrossed in without having to appreciate the lengthy back-story of so many similar films. Unlike a lot of these movies, that can be over-reliant on jaw-dropping special effects at the expense of 3D characters you can truly invest in, Ant-Man is grounded in more basic emotions. Sure, the central storyline is about humans magically shrunk to the size of insects, but as well as introducing a whole new universe – literally, at everyone’s feet – it has a lot of heart. The female lead character is also foremost in the action, a definite bonus in a superhero universe so often dominated by testosterone and alpha males.

When We First Met

Sometimes the best Netflix movies for a first date are the good, old-fashioned romances, although this feature also involves a bit of time traveling! Noah (Adam deVine) meets Avery (Alexandra Daddario) at a party one Halloween. He falls for her, only to be friend-zoned. Fast-forwarding three years, Avery has become engaged to someone else. Noah has the power to go back in time and influence events to try and engineer his preferred outcome. Altering time has become a familiar trope, introducing so effectively in the aforementioned Groundhog Day, and more recently, in About Time. But here you can’t help but fall for the blend of laugh-out-loud moments, and the sparkling chemistry between the actors. Emotions frequently run high, which is perfect for your viewing experience.

O Brother, Where art thou?

Over the years, Ethan and Joel Cohen have unleashed a whole series of memorable, thought-proking comedies. This is one of their best. It’s the USA in the mid-1930s, at the height of the Great Depression that caused so much hardship. The plight of the three main characters, Ulysses (George Clooney), Pete (John Torturro), and Delmar (Tim Blake Nelson) is worsened by the fact they form part of a prison chain-gang. Managing to escape, the loveable trio embark on a true odyssey (the screenplay is based on Homer’s classic fable), with Clooney and friends singing joyous bluegrass songs, and encountering sirens, and an actual one-eyed Cyclops (John Goodman as a Ku Klux Klan leader, overseeing his racist numbskulls performing an elaborate dance routine during one gathering).

Step Brothers

What better way to conclude a choice of date night flicks than an over-the-top comedy, starring Will Ferrell and John C Reilly as Brennan and Dale, two spectacularly lazy and incompetent man-children, living and leeching off their parents? When their Brennan and Dale’s respective parents move in together, the sworn enemies clash at every opportunity. At one point Brennan tries burying Dale in the garden, which exemplifies the intensity of their antipathy. But slowly, grudgingly, friendship and love are kindled. Ideal for your blossoming relationship!

Can Fast and Furious Be a Hit Without The Rock?

Many people considered ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ to be boring, probably because there is no much interest in the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise after the seventh installment. ‘Fast and Furious 8’ was released only two days before ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ and much to people’s surprise, it was better in many ways.

Besides the fact that ‘Hobbs and Shaw’ promised to become another classic buddy cop movie, it didn’t keep its promise. Instead, it looked like the main characters, Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson were trying too hard to be funny and interesting. Moreover, the fight scene didn’t amaze many viewers, and the action looked very boring. Consequently, the opening weekend numbers were very tame, and it made roughly $60m. However, that’s not what is expected from a $200m movie.

So, the ‘Fast and Furious’ fans were left wondering where does the franchise go from here. Many people have stated that the movie started their downfall the moment they began working to surpass their own ridiculous stunts. Even though the spin-off of the franchise did their best to enhance the plot of the movie, it doesn’t seem to be very successful.

It looks like we’ve seen it all from the franchise, including planes, tanks, and supercars through skyscrapers. The franchise doesn’t have anything new to offer, besides the crazy stunts, they’re trying to pull off. So, this led fans to believe that the series won’t last much longer. The fact that neither the Rock nor Statham will be part of Fast 9 only adds to this belief. However, many fans hope that ‘Hobbs and Shaw’ has the potential of becoming a very successful independent movie franchise.

Img source:

The Rock is held responsible for revitalizing the franchise, and it’s believed that this is the reason why he doesn’t get on well with Vin Diesel. This raised many questions, such as whether the franchise can be a hit without the Rock and whether or not the ‘Hobbs and Shaw’ spinoff can survive without the ‘Family’?

In a nutshell, the fact that Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham aren’t part of the main Fast series seems to have negative consequences for both franchises.

Citizenfour, 2014

This is a story about risk, which can be justified, and may be in vain, about truth and lies, about money and real values, about good and evil, and people who really rule the world, and about the value of information as such in our high-tech time.

Everything is good with Fast and Furious 9, now that Dwayne Johnson is gone

The filming of the movie Fast and Furious 9 has begun, and we can’t wait for it to be finished.

Considering the posts that the cast and director posted on social media everyone is having so much fun. And they are all having fun without their former co-cast member Dwayne Johnson.

There was a bit of a drama surrounding The Rock and his involvement in this franchise. A couple of years ago Dwayne was accused by Tyrese Gibson that he is ruining the whole series, and all because he was trying to make the movie all about himself.

And the fans of this franchise know that the movies are all about Paul Walker, Vin Diesel and Tyrese Gibson himself. Everything went so wrong that Dwayne and Vin Diesel refused to film any scenes together. But now that drama is finished, and Dwayne Johnson is no longer a cast member of the Fast and Furious.

He did make his own spin-off of the Fast and Furious franchise with his fellow colleague Jason Statham, called Hobbs and Shaw. You’ll need to wait for the movie to come out this summer to see if it is good enough like the Fast and Furious franchise.

But when it comes to Fast and Furious 9 there has been a lot of post on social media posted by the film crew. Vin Diesel posted a video he filmed with his co-star Michelle Rodriguez where they celebrated the first day of filming.

Justin Lin tweeted that it feels like home to be back filming. And Tyrese Gibson also posted on his Instagram profile that he is proud to work with 2 powerful women, and one of them is his managed Isabella Castro.

So it seems that everything is going well and that everyone is doing well and that they are enjoying filming the new movie. And it seems like they are not missing Dwayne.

Now we just have to wait for the filming to end and for the movie to hit the theatres.

What we Know About the New Scooby-Doo Movie

A new Scooby-Doo movie has been announced to release in the spring of 2020 according to Fans have loved the detective dog and Mystery Inc. ever since Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! premiered as a Saturday morning cartoon in 1969.

This was an incredibly successful TV series for three seasons and eventually, the Mystery Inc gang made it to the big screen not once, but twice. Now, there are talks of not only a new movie, but other related projects as well.

The Scooby-Doo Phenomenon

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! was just the beginning for everyone’s favorite crime sniffing dog. The series, which began its run as an animated cartoon in 1969 followed a dog named Scooby-Doo and his friends (Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Shaggy), the Mystery Inc. gang, who solved crimes and faced eerie characters and monsters.

The series featured many great one liners (like “Scooby-dooby-doo! and “rut-roh Raggy”) but the one that is probably the most well-known is what the villain would say at the end of every episode after the Mystery Inc. gang solved the crime, “…and I would have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn’t been for you meddling kids!”

The original animated Scooby series only aired for three seasons; however, through the years, there have been many reboots, including two big screen live action films in the early 2000s.

Live Action Versions

Scooby-Doo was one of the first animated series or movies to receive the live action treatment in the 2000s. Scooby-Doo: The Movie was released in 2002 and was directed by Raja Gosnell (you can get more info on that version here). Gosnell has also directed many other family friendly hits like Home Alone 3, Beverly Hill Chihuahua, and The Smurfs. The live action movie cast included Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini, and Rowan Atkinson.

The plot followed the same basic outline of the original series, but was expanded upon in order to fill an entire two hours of crime solving. The Mystery Inc gang had reunited after having gone separate ways for two years, only to meet back up at a horror resort where they were forced to fight supernatural crime once again, consisting of evil demonic forces. Throughout the film, the gang become trapped in different bodies, but eventually solve the crime by working together as a team.

Following the blockbuster success of Scooby Doo: The Movie, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed was released in 2004.

Fans are hopeful that the new movie will be as good as Scooby-Doo: The Movie, which is arguably the better movie between the two live action films that have been made.

The New Movie

The new Scooby-Doo movie, also known, according to as Scoob is set to hit theatres on May 15, 2020. The new movie is said to feature other Hanna-Barbera characters who recruit Scooby-Doo to find an enchanted collar in order to stop a ghost attack.

Scoob features a star-studded cast with Zac Efron as Fred, Amanda Seyfried as Daphne, Will Forte as Shaggy, and Gina Rodriguez as Velma. Frank Welker, who has been the voice of Scooby-Doo since the original 1960s cartoon will return to voice the great dane.

Matthew Lillard, who has voiced Shaggy since 2002 will not be returning to theatres with this revival of the characters and he made sure to let everyone on Twitter know that he was not happy with the decision. Lillard wrote on Twitter after the new cast was announced, “Well this sucks. What a crappy way to find out…thanks Hollywood. You never cease to amaze me.”

The new movie is set to be directed by Tony Cervone, who directed a few of the animated TV series reboots. The new film will be produced by Chris Columbus, Pam Coats, and Allison Abbate. The film is said to be an animated film, as opposed to live action like the previous two times that the world’s favorite crime sniffing dog has hit the big screen.

With this film being the first film about Scoob and the gang in 14 years, there are high stakes for this film to do well. Parents will be taking their children and enjoying the nostalgia of it all, while young children will hopefully become new fans of these characters.

At this time, not too much information has been released as far as the plot of the new Scooby-Doo movie; however, now that the cast has been officially announced, the film can begin production. This means that we are all one step closer to being able to go see Scoob! In theatres. Because the film is being directed by a veteran, Tony Cervone, it can also be expected that the film will remain true to the original Scooby-Doo style and basic plot outline and structure. The internet is already going crazy over the cast (in a good way), so the expectations are high.

15 Best Quotes By Rocky Balboa That Will Get You Back on Your Feet

It is scientifically impossible to hear eye of the Tiger and not think about Rocky Balboa. The Italian Stallion came from nothing. He started out as a leg breaker or debt collector for a local loan shark Anthony Gazzo, but his ambition is in boxing. When he finally gets a chance to step into the ring with the world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, Rocky shows that he has got what it takes. That is how the story of Rocky begins. With his old coach Mickey and faithful Polly in his corner, Balboa goes on to become a legend.

Many of us have grown up with Rocky, watching him fight his way from suburbs of Philadelphia to the world heavyweight championship. He never quits, even when his body is completely broken. Even when Micky dies, he finds the will to carry on and take the fight to Clubber Lang (played by Mr. T) and takes his belt back. When Apollo is killed in the ring by Ivan Drago, Rocky uses his rage as fuel and travels to Russia to beat Soviet champion in front of his home crowd. As we learned in the latest Creed movie, that fight comes back to haunt both him and Adonis, as Drago’s son tries to follow in his father’s footsteps.

Img source:

Rocky never claims he is the smartest or strongest guy in the room and that is one of the reasons we love him. He is unpretentious and humble, yet he plows on through life with a will of steel. As he goes, he drops bits of wisdom we all can benefit from. Here are some of our favorite ones.

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”

“Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!”

“But to beat me, he’s going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he’s gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he’s got to be willing to die himself.”

Img source:

“I am not the richest, smartest or most talented person in the world, but I succeed because I keep going and going and going.”

“But you gotta be willing to take the hits. And not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody!”

“Time takes everybody out. Time is undefeated”

Img source:

“One step at a time, one punch at a time, one round at a time.”

“You can’t learn anything when you’re talking. That’s a fact of life.”

“You’re gonna have to go through hell, worse than any nightmare you’ve ever dreamed. But when it’s over, I know you’ll be the one standing. You know what you have to do. Do it.”

Img source:

“Bring back everything that’s ever hurt you, all the pain you had inside. They don’t know what we’ve been through. You belong here!”

“Cause if you’re willing to go through all the battling you got to go through to get where you want to get, who’s got the right to stop you?”

“Every once in a while a person comes along who defies the odds, who defies logic, and fulfills an incredible dream.”
