Bill Gates Net Worth 2021 – He Wants to Donate Most of it

Bill Gates, one of the founders of Microsoft, also almost the richest person on the planet, he’s second, has an estimated net worth of $95.7 billion, according to Forbes.

It’s not easy to think of what to do with all that money, but he has a plan for most of it. He doesn’t spend it willy-nilly, he has things like a luxury car collection, an estate worth $125 million and a private airplane but that’s only a small part of this fortune.

He and his spouse, Melinda, have said that it’s not fair they have so much money so instead of spending it all on themselves they donate a lot of the money he earns. Let’s see how he spends his money.

Bill Gates is a stock and assets investor and has created a $1 billion investment fund that’s called Breakthrough Energy with 20 other people.Even he has such a large fortune he told Ellen DeGeneres on her show that when he became the youngest billionaire he didn’t go on a spending spree.

He did buy a private airplane though, a Bombardier BD-700 Global Express, which is around $40 million and can take up to 19 people.Another thing he spends a lot of money on is his estate, Xanadu 2.0, located in Medina, Washington. He bought it for $2 million in 1988 and took him 7 years and $63 million to build.

Today his home is worth around $125 million and stretches 66,000 square feet, all of that cost him $1,041,292.55 in taxes last year. His kids love the trampoline room he installed into the house, he told Ellen.Just the screens in his home sum up to $80,000 in value and he has devices that cost around $150,000 that can display various paintings or photographs.

But it’s not only technology on his walls, he also has paintings like the Winslow Homer painting he got for $36 million in 1988.He has a separate building for his 60-foot-pool.He also has a 2,100-square-foot library which contains a Leonardo da Vinci manuscript from the 16th century that he bought for $30 million in 1994 at an auction. He pays for people to bring sand from St. Lucia in the Caribbean to the shore near his house.

While he has a home theater for 20 guests, 6 kitchens, 24 bathrooms the real treat is his garages for his 23 cars. The first big thing he bought after founding Microsoft was a Porsche 911 supercar, some time later he sold it and it was auctioned for $80,000. He also has a Porsche 959 in his current collection.

Of course the Washington estate isn’t the only one, he also has a vacation ranch in Wellington, Florida. A mansion that’s 12,864 square feet and costs $27 million, with all the properties in that area.

And that’s till not all his owns, through his investment firm, Cascade, he has partial ownership of Charles Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Another hotel he has invested in is the Four Seasons, which he owns nearly half of, including hotels in Atlanta and Houston. He shares the ownership with Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia.

His favourite vacation spots include Australia, Belize, Croatia and the Amazon in Brazil, when he’s not working of course. He also treated his family to a yacht cruise in the Mediterranean, which he chartered for %5 million a week.As far as sports go he likes skiing and playing tennis, he’s been seen at tennis matches before. He doesn’t like shopping for himself but does like buying for his wife. All these spending are just a small fraction of his fortune and he said that he has no use for it. So he donates or invests his money in good causes.

He agreed to give away most of his money through the Giving Pledge he launched in 2010. He’s been to Tanzania and other countries for charity work. Last year he donated almost $5 billion.

After all this he plans to leave each of his children “only” $10 million, which is of course an incredibly small part of his fortune.

Although Bill Gates is primarily known for being the principal founder of Microsoft, he is continuing to add to his legacy through his philanthropic work post-Microsoft. Breakthrough Energy Ventures (BEV) is a $1 billion fund led by Gates and backed by billionaire friends, Reliance’s Mukesh Ambani, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg and Virgin’s Richard Branson to name a few. The purpose of the fund focuses on tackling climate change on an immediate timescale by investing in technologies with the potential to reduce annual global greenhouse-gas emissions by at least 500 million metric tons. Global emissions currently measure about 40 billion metric tons a year.

Startups with these technologies can often find it difficult to scale, either because the engineering challenge is too big or the business environment that can support the companies is non existent which is why these companies need “patient capital”. For this reason, BEV are willing to allow 20 years for a return on their investments.
