It’s a common statement that fame doesn’t come with age, and in the case of Jamie Clayton, this really holds true. Clayton was born on the 15th of January in 1978 in San Diego, California to Howard Clayton and Shelley Clayton. Her mother was an event planner, while her father was a criminal defense attorney.
From a very early age, Clayton was interested in fine arts and wanted to pursue a career in acting or make-up design. During her childhood days, she would spend her time with her parents and her sister Toni in their house in San Diego. By the time she graduated high school, she was already looking at options to pursue studies in the make-up industry. Eventually, she decided that her career prospects were limited in San Diego, and instead decided to pursue a career as a make-up artist.
Acting Career Begins
She received her training with a prominent make-up school, and it wasn’t long before she got a role as a makeup artist on the VH1 television makeover show called TRANSform Me. This was back in 2010, and she was just turning 20 at the time. Her performance as a make-up artist was very well-received, and the Out magazine listed her as one of the Out 100 by the LGBT fashion and entertainment industry.
This was when the recognized her true passion for acting and decided that she was going to pursue it full-time. This came in 2015 when Netflix recruited her for a role in their small series known as Sense8. Clayton would seize that opportunity with both hands, playing the role of Nomi Marks. She portrays a transgender blogger and hacker who focuses on politics. The series was written and directed by Lana Wachowski, one of the Wachowski brothers who also directed The Matrix.
Sense8 would go on to become a cult-classic, and her performances were widely praised. She performed alongside major actors and actresses like Daryl Hannah, Valeria Biello, and Tina Diesel. After cementing her place as one of the best television LGBT stars of her time, she began looking for offers for movies and got her to break the very next year in 2016.
She was cast in The Neon Demon, which was a psychological horror film that featured Keanu Reeves, Christina Hendricks, Jena Malone, and Elle Fanning. Take a look at the stunning actress, and you’d be hard-pressed to believe that she used to be a boy at one point in time. However, that’s exactly true. Before she became popular, Clayton went for several auditions for transgender roles but was turned down quickly because she didn’t look the part. She was too feminine in her looks. She even took acting classes for gay actors which she credits for her fame and success in the industry.
She was born and raised as a boy but began to transition in 2003. When her family took a vacation outside Tucson, it was revealed that she was also going for a compilation surgery at the same time. Clayton’s surgery was done by renowned surgeon Dr. Toby Meltzer, and it is said that the surgery cost the family $16,000. She was under operation for six hours before the surgery ended.
Throughout her career, she has been a prominent spokesperson for other people, especially those who don’t have the courage to open up about their se*ual identity. She is also a model and is not married to anyone. She identifies as bi, saying that she is attracted to both men and women. There was a rumor that she was once dating Keanu Reeves, though neither of them ever confirmed the rumors.
Owing to her swift rise as an actress, she has made excellent earnings from her profession. Despite the fact that her real salary has not been revealed to any media sources, it is believed that she has a net worth in excess of $1 million, primarily due to her acting and her performances in Sense8. This has allowed her to make more capital as the series was quite popular.
She lives in a beautiful house along with her parents and family in San Diego and has chosen not to relocate to a separate property as yet.
