Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in ‘Songland’ episode inspired by Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

If you didn’t watch any of the previous 6 episodes of Songland songwriting competitions, it’s about a new NBC’s show that is trying to promote talented songwriters and it’s launched on May 28 of this year. Several competitors had the opportunity to show their talent in songwriting and their songs were selected and recorded by well-known musicians and artists.

For example, John Legend, who was a guest judge on the first show, chose “We Need Love”, a song written by Tebby Burrows and song hit the 10th place on the iTunes chart.

In addition to this song, Black Eyed Peas (will.i.am) selected “Be Nice” by Adam Friedman, Jonas Brothers chose “Greenlight” by Able Heart, while Darius Coleman’s song “Better Luck Next Time” was selected by Kelsey Ballerini. These were the winners of the previous episodes.

But in the latest episode of the show, the guest judge was Aloe Blacc, and the song written by the winner of the episode would be selected and featured in the upcoming Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw movie. In order to provide support to all contestants, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was surprised when FaceTime wanted them luck and said:

“Our music for Hobbs & Shaw is our soul, and it’s a lifeline of our movie. Thank you so much for sharing your passion. Go out there and have fun. And by the way, the world does not know you – but they’re about to! ”

In addition to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the leading roles in the new movie are played by Jason Statham and Idris Elba.

Given that David Leitch (director of Hobbs & Shaw) and Aloe Blacc are looking for a suitable song that would be featured in the new sequel of the popular franchise, this episode was a great chance for songwriters to show their best and be selected. It looks like this episode was really lucky for them and they chose a song written by Kyle Williams. The name of the new Blacc’s anthem is “Getting Started”.

Although the song by Kyle Williams was chosen, it didn’t look like “Getting Started” is going to be a winner. Blacc and Leitch had really positive comments for the song “Chosen” by Afika before. Ester Dean (also a judge in the ‘Songland’ show) had a positive comment on Afika’s song, as well. However, it seems that Leitch and Blacc felt that “Getting Started” fits better for the upcoming blockbuster.
