Scott Lobdell and Alé Garza’s 1999 graphic novel Ball and Chain is getting a movie version and two Hollywood stars have the lead roles. They will be playing a married couple whose relationship is on ice. They are just getting ready for a divorce when a meteorite hits the planet and gives them mysterious superpowers. The catch is that their superpowers only work when they are together.

This is how the comic series is explained by the authors: “Edgar and Mallory Bulson have decided to throw in the towel. That was the plan anyway until a mysterious meteor bathed the battling couple in extraterrestrial energies that gave them superpowers. Will their newfound abilities be enough to make their marriage work?”

Their previous project, Jungle Cruise, has been pushed back a whole year. It was originally scheduled for a July 24th premiere, but the COVID-19 pandemic had other plans. Some suggested that the movie could have been simply delayed to the end of the year and made available on Disney+. Johnson defended the decision on his Instagram account: “I feel great and bullish about this date as it gives us time for Disney to be fully operational in all their businesses – theme parks, hotels, cruise ships, but more importantly, it gives the world time to bounce back to living confidently, productively and joyously once again. Thank you, Disney leadership team. And thank you to all the fans worldwide. The movie will be worth the wait. Stay healthy, my friends.”
