Japanese Brains Create 90-Percent-Plastic Vehicle (VIDEO)

The University of Tokio scientists presented the first car in the world which has been made almost entirely out of plastic. In fact, plastic was used for 90% of the vehicle.

Because this material is being used all over the world for different purposes, the scientists in Japan decided to make such a vehicle. It is an interesting fact that this car is 40% lighter than any standard model, which isn’t odd considering that this material was used predominantly.

The energy consumption is, therefore, reduced significantly which opens up various opportunities for the development of electric cars. The use of plastic in the auto industry has been marked as impossible a long time ago, stating that the toughness of the material is an issue that cannot be solved.

The scientists from Japan offered a solution and strengthened the body of a car by combining different kinds of plastic.

Japan is the innovation leader in the automobile industry, and they continue to impress the world. For instance, during the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020, the new driver-less transportation system will be pioneered. This kind of transport is expected to be commercialized in this country by 2022.

First Solarimpact Yacht Ever Built (VIDEO)

As the technologies advance and we move away from gas and oil, the vehicles we drive, the planes in the air and the boats on the water – they all change. And they will continue to change until we switch completely to wind, solar and electric power.

We are not very far from the futuristic vehicles you can see in movies or the drawing rooms. The first solar yacht has been built! It is 24 meters long; this electric Solarimpact yacht is a first-of-a-kind concept created for the voyage across oceans. It packs the 800-kWh battery that provides 10 hours of the cruise. This battery can be recharged whenever the sun is shining.

The solar panels are covering the top layers of this yacht, and together, they can generate up to 320 kWh per day if the sun is shining all day long. They can be used to power this yacht whenever the conditions are right. If you are ready to travel slowly and steadily, this vessel is something to consider. Of course, you need to be rich enough to purchase it.

This yacht weighs 70 tons, and it packs 1,341 electric horsepower with the impressive top speed of 22 knots. However, if you plan on using the solar energy only, you can cruise for as long as you like, but in that case, the boat develops the max speed of 5 knots only.

Of course, not everything depends on the solar panel. Nobody wants to see you stranded in the middle of the ocean, which is why this boat packs a couple of diesel engines as a support to the entire system. One person is enough to steer the yacht because there are a lot of AI technologies and features.

As expected, the interior of this yacht is highly luxurious, and there is room for 10 guests and 1 crew member.

Smart Introduces Forease Concept in Paris (VIDEO)

Smart builds cars perfect for the city driving and with their new concept, they have reached new minimums. The vehicle that was presented at the 2018 Paris Motor Show is called the Forease. In its core, it is the Fortwo but only without the top.

This is not the first crazy concept that the company has introduced. We have had a chance to see the 2001 Crossblade that was later produced and the 2011 Forspeed. The Smart was already tiny, and by removing the roof, the new model looks even more radical. This makes the car perfect for the urban environment but only when it is sunny.

The new concept is electric, but Smart refused to reveal anything about the powertrain. It is the reason why we need to refer to some other models and see what’s going out there to get the idea of what could be placed under the skin of Forease. The current Fortwo EQ has the electric motor that delivers 80 hp and 118 lb-ft of torque. The coupe version can reach 60 mph in 11.4 seconds whereas the top speed is 81 mph. These are the similar numbers we can expect from the Forease.

Smart is expected to become an all-electric brand by 2020. In the USA, only electric Smart models are sold, and this started with the 2018 MY. The gasoline vehicles weren’t even that popular across the pond, and the company will only gain from such a move.

At the 2018 Paris Motor Show, Smart celebrates the 20th birthday and they marked it with the introduction of the Forease. They will obviously keep producing fuel-efficient vehicles with great maneuverability, but who knows what the future holds for this carmaker.

14. Lamborghini Aventador

LeBron James spent about $670,000 on Lamborghini Aventador that was later on customized with a color scheme that is identical with his Nike LeBron XI and King James Legacy sneakers. This car hides the mighty 6.5-liter V12 engine thus making it one of the fastest supercars ever produced.

What are some of the famous car names that will seemingly never die?

Just like with many other products, modern advertising techniques have pushed carmakers to come up with a wide palette of different models, to compete in various segments of the market. This means that weird words, like the VW’s Touareg, are the names of cars. In addition, meaningless combinations of letters and numbers like the Hyundai’s i30 serve model markings, quickly surpassed by a new edition with a higher number.

Some cars, however, managed to sway away from this trend with names and models that survived father time. These iconic vehicles remained in production for decades. These living legends provide a clear and amazing insight into car design history. Each new generation represents the era in which it was created and serves as an inspiration for the next.

For this reason, let us honor these long-lasting models by taking a look at their evolution over the decades, and how they became the vehicles we know and love today.

7. Honda Civic (1972 – Present)

Honda was thinking to pull out of the car manufacturing game completely before they released the first Civic. They changed their mind in 1972 when their subcompact became a massive hit around the globe because of its great fuel efficiency, and a very reliable engine.

Since then, the Civic went through ten generations of alterations. It is an example of Honda’s renowned engine making abilities. Its famous K, VTEC and CVCC units powered it through the years.

E-Legend Concept is Peugeot’s Muscle Car for the Electric Age

Shown at the Paris Motor Show, Peugeot’s e-Legend Concept might be a fan favorite among the electric concept cars. Inspired by the design of the classic Peugeot 504 coupe, it has an aggressive styling similar to the Ford Mustang GT. However, hidden under the old-school muscle car look is an all-electric, fully autonomous, connected vehicle. This model looks to the future without destroying the past of the French brand. The result is fascinating.

A Muscle Car for the New Age

The idea behind the e-Legend is that you do not need to compromise on anything. The concept has a variety of driving modes. Two autopilot modes send the steering wheel into the dashboard, while they give access to a curved 49-inch widescreen display. The Soft mode reduces disturbances and distractions to an absolute minimum, while the Sharp mode is an option that maximizes connection to digital activity, like social networks for example. If you actually decide to drive, the Legend mode is the default, and it packs a Boost option, which enhances the driving excitement and experience.

Voice commands are used to control driving modes, music, opens, and closes the electrical doors. This is designed for completely autonomous driving pleasure. Peugeot says that a version of this assistant will make its way to production vehicles as well, probably in the next two years.

French at its Finest

Focal, a fellow company from France collaborated with Peugeot on the sound system of the e-Legend Concept. This includes great audio zoning features like creating an audio bubble for each passenger or sending navigation instructions to the driver. Therefore, everyone can be in his or her own world within the enclosed space of a car. The French carmaker also partnered with a Parisian perfumery, Ex Nihilo, to develop two custom scents for this model. Unfortunately, access to the vehicle was denied at the premiere, so nobody yet knows how this neat detail feels like, and what the aromas of these perfumes are.

What about the Interior?

The interior is unusual. The steering wheel is angular, while every flat surface seems to have a display. There is a total of 16 screens inside the e-Legend, a 12-inch screen in each of the sunshades and 29-inch displays in the doors. A company like Nvidia will surely be excited about this, as they will provide chips to power as many screens as the manufacturer can fit inside a car. Although cool, some believe all this is unnecessary.

Under the Hood

When it comes to the most important thing for petrolheads, the Peugeot e-Legend runs on a fully electric drivetrain that delivers 340kW to the four wheels. It makes it go from zero to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in less than four seconds. A 600km (370 miles) range was promised, with a fast charging option that will replenish more than 80% of charge in under 25 minutes. In addition, an option with the inductive charging will be available.

A Familiar, Yet Different Exterior

By far the most intriguing thing about the e-Legend is the amazing exterior design. Reminiscent of the famous muscle cars like the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro or Dodge Challenger, this electric vehicle definitely lives up to the French carmaker’s claim that the “boring” design is not in their DNA. Whether you decide to grab it by the wheel or let it drive you around by itself, a model like this looks awesome under every circumstance, which is very important.
