Biography

Edward Michael Bear Grylls was born on June 7, 1974 in Donaghadee, County Down, Northern Ireland. He partly grew up there, before he moved with his family to Bembridge, Isle of Wight. He attended Eaton House, Ludgrove School, and Eaton College. After graduating, he joined the University of West England. He studied Spanish and German Languages, after which he went to University of London, Birkbeck, where he earned a part-time degree in Hispanic studies. In 2002, he graduated with a 2.2 grade.

Career

Bear Grylls served in the British Army from between 1994 and 1997. He is trainedin winter warfare, survival, unarmed combat, climbing, explosives, parachuting, and desert warfare. He was a survival instructor in North Africa in tours after his training. His military career ended after an accident in Kenya, when his parachute did not open. Bear suffered a spinal injury, after which he needed rehabilitation.

After his recovery, he made his dream come true and climbed Mount Everest. He became one of the youngest to achieve this amazing feat of strength and durability on May 16, 1998. He earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
He also led several expeditions including the one meant to raise money for the Lifeboat Institution in 2000. He lead a team which to circumnavigated the British Isles on jet Skis in about 30 days.
